P. Bart Stephens

Co-founder & Managing Partner

Bart Stephens is Co-founder and Managing Partner of Blockchain Capital, the first venture capital fund to invest exclusively in the blockchain technology sector and the first to raise a venture fund through an ICO. Blockchain Capital is the pioneer and most established VC firm in the Blockchain sector with more than 75 portfolio companies across four funds. Prior to Blockchain Capital, Bart was Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Stephens Investment Management, LLC (SIM), a family owned and operated hedge fund and venture capital firm. Bart and his brother and Co-Founder, Brad, invented the term and pioneered “Nanocap” investing – venture capital style investing in the public markets focused on sub micro-cap equities.

Bart has a background as both an operating entrepreneur and a venture capitalist. Prior to co-founding SIM, Bart was Executive Vice President, Venture Capital for Ivanhoe Capital Corporation (ICC), an international investment firm.

Before joining ICC, Bart was a founding investor and Head of Corporate & Business development for Oncology.com. Oncology.com grew to become the internet’s largest cancer related web site before being sold to Pharmacia (now Pfizer) in 2001.

Prior to Oncology.com, Bart spent more than two years with E*TRADE, an early internet innovator in online financial services. While at E*TRADE, he held senior positions focused on product marketing, business development and corporate development.

Bart earned a B.A. in Political Science from Princeton University.

W. Bradford Stephens

Co-founder & Managing Partner

Brad Stephens is Co-founder and Managing Partner of Blockchain Capital, the premier venture capital fund investing in the blockchain technology sector and the first to raise a venture fund through an ICO. Prior to Blockchain Capital, Brad was Managing Partner of Stephens Investment Management LLC (SIM), which he co-founded in 2002. His diverse background in domestic and international finance includes sell-side securities analysis, hedge fund management, venture capital and family office management.

Prior to co-founding SIM, Brad worked as the senior analyst at Fidelity Ventures, the venture capital arm of Fidelity Investments. At Fidelity, Brad focused on the areas of Internet Security and New Media, leading investments into e-Security, Sanctum and Managed Objects. He also founded Fidelity’s Biometric Consortium, a cutting-edge collaboration of all Fidelity’s business units designed to explore, pilot and implement biometric security systems within Fidelity and eventually its consumer clients.

Brad also worked as a research analyst in CSFB’s Technology Group, specializing in Internet Security and Internet infrastructure software. While at CSFB, Brad helped raise over $1.3 billion for companies under coverage. Prior to working at CSFB, Brad worked as a research analyst at Furman Selz (later acquired by ING Barings), where he co-founded their Internet Research Group and co-authored the first financial industry piece on Internet Security.

Brad holds a B.A. in Economics from Duke University.

Spencer Bogart

Partner

Spencer Bogart is a Partner at Blockchain Capital, the General Partner of Blockchain Capital’s venture funds. Spencer is a fundamental investment analyst with a rare combination of deep experience analyzing cryptocurrencies as well as traditional equity opportunities.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Spencer was a Vice President at Needham & Company, where he authored Wall Street’s first industry report highlighting the use-cases, companies and potential of blockchain technology. He was also the most active Bitcoin analyst on Wall Street writing detailed reports and research on Bitcoin’s fundamental value proposition, price forecast, and technical advancements. Aside from leading all research efforts related to Bitcoin and Blockchain during his time at Needham & Company, Spencer also covered public SaaS, FinTech, and Internet companies, authored reports on those sectors, and issued price targets on companies under coverage.

Prior to Needham & Company, Spencer cut his teeth in the startup world where he helped build a first-of-its-kind proprietary research platform for analyzing Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which was later acquired by FactSet.

Given his rare combination of skillsets and history of actively publishing reports, Spencer is widely cited throughout the Bitcoin and Blockchain industry and is a regular speaker at industry and startup events. Spencer is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and earned his B.A. in Business Economics from University of California, Santa Barbara.

Jimmy Song

Bitcoin Fellow

Jimmy Song is the Bitcoin Fellow at Blockchain Capital, the general partner of Blockchain Capital’s venture funds. Jimmy, a Bitcoin Core developer, brings more than 20 years’ of deep technical expertise, programming, and development experience to the firm.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Jimmy served as a developer and programmer at more than a dozen start-ups. Most recently, he served as principal architect at Paxos and vice president of engineering at Amory Technologies, where he managed the development of enterprise-level Bitcoin wallet software. Jimmy started in Bitcoin Development in 2013 and has worked on numerous Bitcoin projects such as Bitcoin Core, btcd, Armory, pycoin and colored coins. Jimmy teaches developers how to program Bitcoin through his seminar Programming Blockchain. He is the editor and author of popular blog, Bitcoin Tech Talk and YouTube Off Chain with Jimmy Song. He’s also the author of the upcoming book, Programming Bitcoin.

Jimmy earned his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

JoAnne Lauer

Director of Investor Relations

JoAnne Lauer is Director of Operations for Blockchain Capital. She draws from over 30 years in financial services and educational organizations, generating growth in her roles spanning leadership, operations, relationship management, and professional training. JoAnne plays a strategic role at Blockchain Capital in managing investor relations, marketing and communications.

Prior to Blockchain Capital, JoAnne was the Global Program Director for two international executive leadership and communications firms before founding her own professional coaching and consulting practice.

JoAnne was also VP, Investor Relations & Regulatory Affairs for Belvedere Capital, the first private equity firm to become a bank holding company, where she managed multiple complex regulatory relationships, coordinated fundraising, and managed all investor, portfolio company and outsourced legal and accounting relationships, as well as the administrative team.

JoAnne earned her B.A. in Business Management, Human Resources and Organizational Development from Sonoma State University, and is a certified professional coach.

Zalia Aliriza

Controller

Zalia Aliriza is the Controller for Blockchain Capital. She has more than 25 years’ experience in finance, operations and management roles, upholding the highest standards in the industry.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Zalia served as Director of Finance and Operations for Voicebox Creative, a San Francisco based branding and packaging design firm. Over her ten-year tenure, she was responsible for all management & accounting functions, as well as design and implementation of operational systems and control procedures.

After four years in a management accounting role in Hong Kong, Zalia founded and grew her own accounting practice. Over eight years, she supported dozens of clients with monthly accounting services as well as budget development & management, tax return filing, and strategic planning. Zalia began her professional career leading worldwide corporate health & wellness retreats.

Zalia earned her B.A. in Business and Finance from London School of Business Management and is a certified yoga and meditation teacher.

H. Joshua Rivera

General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer

Joshua Rivera is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Blockchain Capital, the General Partner of Blockchain Capital’s funds. Joshua is an expert in the legal issues governing security tokens, cryptocurrencies, decentralized networks and consumptive use tokens and has extensive experience analyzing the blockchain industry’s rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. Joshua supports the research team in reviewing salient legal questions addressing prospective and current portfolio companies and brings to bear his legal expertise and connections to help forecast the ongoing development of the industry. Joshua led the firm’s process of upgrading its BCAP tokens, believed to be the first token issued as a security, to help bring liquidity to BCAP holders and further enhance the BCAP’s compliance with regulatory trading requirements.

Before joining Blockchain Capital, Joshua worked as a senior associate at Cooley LLP where he was part of the firm’s cryptocurrency and blockchain practice counseling exchanges, investors and blockchain developers. While at Cooley, he also advised traditional venture capital firms, startup companies and investment banks on a broad array of business transactions, including private financings, private and public M&A transactions, public offerings and ongoing public company regulatory compliance.

Prior to Cooley, Joshua worked as an associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP where he advised companies and financial institutions on various commercial matters including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets offerings, credit financings, asset management transactions and real estate ventures.

Joshua received a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S. of Business Administration and second major in Philosophy with highest distinction from the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill.

Kinjal Shah

Associate

Kinjal is an Associate on the Blockchain Capital investment & research team. At Blockchain Capital, Kinjal is focused on taking an interdisciplinary approach to investing and is excited about supporting entrepreneurs and the crypto ecosystem.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Kinjal was a Senior Consulting Analyst at Fidelity Investments in Boston. At Fidelity, Kinjal worked on various strategic initiatives covering cybersecurity, investment product development and digitization of institutional services. She also spent time developing the strategic direction of Fidelity’s blockchain initiatives. Specifically, Kinjal built out the business case for Fidelity’s enterprise cryptoasset data approach.

Kinjal earned her B.S. in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University, with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Studies.

Kinjal Shah

Associate

Aleks Larsen

Senior Analyst

Aleks Larsen is a senior analyst at Blockchain Capital, the General Partner of Blockchain Capital’s venture funds. With a multidisciplinary background, Aleks brings a unique combination of experience in systems engineering, fundamental analysis and capital markets to the firm. Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Aleks worked as an investment banking analyst at Guggenheim Partners, focusing on mergers & acquisitions and equity financings within the biotechnology sector.

Aleks graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Systems Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.

Derek Hsue

Analyst

Derek Hsue is an analyst at Blockchain Capital. Before that, he worked in the Private Funds group at Mercury Capital, where he focused on venture capital fund diligence. Derek is an active writer, and has explored various topics including governance, mining, and privacy. He is also a founding member of the Penn Blockchain Club, where he taught an introduction course to cryptocurrencies.

Derek attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he got his B.S. in Economics and Finance.

Allison Chapman

Executive Assistant

Allison Chapman is an Executive Assistant to the Managing Partners at Blockchain Capital. In addition to supporting the leadership team in all of their endeavors, she also supports the LP Relations, Sales and Marketing efforts of the firm in addition to managing events.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Allison held the role of Executive Assistant at a leading global public relations firm and, before that, at a specialty insurance firm, where she spearheaded operations for a global IT transformation. Her roles also included coordinating large-scale events, marketing, hiring & onboarding, and precise communications. Allison has extensive professional experience supporting multiple senior executives while providing the highest level of client service in fast-paced, multi-million-dollar project environments.

Allison double majored at the University of West Georgia and holds a B.A. in both Human Geography and Humanistic Psychology.

Allie Spencer

Office Manager & Executive Assistant

Allie Spencer is the Office Manager as well as an Executive Assistant for Blockchain Capital. Allie manages all aspects of office administration, from outside vendors and IT support to coordinating meetings and managing diverse projects. Allie plays a key role in maintaining our work environment, organization, and safety. Allie also provides executive administrative support to the Managing Partners.

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Allie served as Store Coordinator for an innovation tech company. Here, Allie oversaw multiple facets of the business, from day-to-day operations to marketing, sales, deliveries and managing the client facing team. She also managed and coordinated large-scale events as well as conducted recruiting, onboarding and training of new hires.

Prior to the tech company, Allie held a leadership role in a large retail organization where she served as a brand service leader as well as provided high-touch client service.

Allie earned her B.M. for Opera Performance at Sonoma State University. Allie still performs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
